Unbleached filters are the best for the environment, but the real deal is Subscribe and Save…the best idea since sliced bread! I save so much on so many products. I love it!

We have ordered the white Melitta #2 cone coffee filters from Amazon before, and they worked fine. But when I reordered, I was feeling “green” and also wanted to save some money, so I purchased the brown “natural” version of these filters. At least half of the brown filters we use pass the fine particles in the grind (the same as we used with the white filters), so you end up with a layer of “mud” on the bottom of the cup, and, I suppose, a significant amount in your stomach. Tastes pretty bad. Buy the white ones.

The indication is that I am reviewing natural brown coffee filters. They must have faded on the way to Vermont since they were white when they arrived. However, they continue to do the job for which they were purchased and my only negative comment would be the fact that they are exclusively made by Melitta which provides that company with an exclusive and I would prefer (because I would benefit) from a little competition.

These work well (don’t break or tear) plus the unbleached paper is a better alternative!

Being on a $#@&% budget, and having my local grocer not stock Melitta #2 unbleached filters, or even their own house brand, I bought both Green Mountain and Krups #2 water-bleached filter cones, which I suspect are made by the same manufacturer, since in both cases, the embossed bit is about 0.5″ wide, as opposed to Melitta’s 0.3″ width, which means your filter capacity is decreased with Krups & Green Mountain, which means the filter cone either A)Needs to filled more often or B)Overflows INSTANTLY. Both of these off brands ran about $1.49 for 100, which is a big saving vs Melitta, but I don’t know, I’ve been using Melitta for the better part of 30 years, & it just feels better.
