  1. I’m sure it’s a fine filter –but those considering this item for a Cuisinart Grind & Brew coffeemaker should be aware that it will not fit those machines. You must buy the Cuisinart gold tone filter instead (diameter of the Cuisinart item is somewhat smaller, and bottom is mesh which is necessary for the grind/brew to function properly). Just a word from experience here–I bought this one first, because it’s a few bucks cheaper, but had to return and buy the other instead….

  2. I won’t criticize this filter for the following as I don’t know what’s to blame, but does anyone notice that it seems to allow very, very fine grains of coffee through and into the coffee ?? What seems to make it through is literally powdered grounds. My wife has actually started using this filter with a paper filter under it to stop this. The coffee tastes fine either way though. We don’t grind our coffee either, just use Folgers or similar.

This came with the Mr. Coffee machine that I bought, I don’t know, maybe 3 years ago. Had never tried it before because that solid plastic bottom just seemed wrong, not really sure what the logic is, although I’m sure somebody has a plausible explanation.

Anyway, I finally decided to try it, and it does work. I drink my coffee black, and if there’s any difference in flavor, it’s subtle. It does seem that the coffee is a little weaker this way, which is not a good thing. Maybe it’s because the water is not going all the way through the grounds, but is soaking in and then coming out the sides. You could put more coffee in, but then you’re wasting some of the money that you saved on paper filters.

So I think I’ll keep on with the paper filters, which I can get very cheap, but at least I have an emergency backup.

This is a perfect fit for my Mr. Coffee 10-Cup Thermal Programmable Coffee Maker . Dump the grounds, a quick rinse and I’m ready to brew.

This works fine, and you don’t have any more paper filters to throw out, or have to worry when you are running out of them.
